I always look a car over as carefully as I can before buying it, but I ALWAYS find things that I have overlooked. In 30 years only 2 of the last 8-10 type 3s I have bought have not needed a new engine and a complete brake overhaul. Then add in 10-20 hours of just working little things over to get them right again. A friend of mine once advised that when buying used cars he always budgeted as much money for repairs as he spent on the car. With cars this old, we should expect to pay even more for post purchase repairs. You just can't buy a car this old and expect it to be a daily driver right off. After all, there was a reason the other guy was selling it. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
