[T3] Invasion 2002 and general show note...

Hey Volks,
Brian and I were discussing the Invasion and it seems some of y'all don't
quite understand it. Just to clarify, it is

A GATHERING OF AIR-COOLED, TYPE THREE VOLKSWAGENS

period.

Not just show cars. Not just parts cars. Not just daily drivers. If it is
a Type III and you can bring it to the Invasion then bring it! Drive it,
tow it, parachute it, we don't care, just BRING IT!!

Okay, part 2:
The paint on my car SUCKS! The body needs to be smoothed out after 29 years
of use. But I'm very proud of her history and the engineering I've put into
her. So I show her. I make a T3 presence. Sometimes I place, sometimes I
don't. I never know. But while I am showing I ALWAYS meet someone who has
-- or had -- a T3 and I get to brag about my baby :) and inform them about
the list and things to look for and do and etc.

What I want to emphasize is that shows will continue to classify the T3 & T4
together while they remain small. The more of these Types that show up and
increase the size of the category, the greater the chance they will get
their own category in the following years, heck, it may even break out from
General to a Stock and Custom category! I've seen junkers. I've seen
trailer queens. I've seen clean daily drivers. But only very few and more
in the parking lot *cough*Peter Parker*cough* than there should be.

When I'm at a show I like competition because that means people had to
decide which car they enjoyed most and it keeps me in that 'hungry' mode to
keep up my baby. If you go to a show and you're the only vehicle in the
class, yes, you will get first place but there are no 'battle scars', no
'fight to the death', in which to savor the kill (okay, so I get a little
cavemanish, I'm a guy, sue me :p )

The point of this lecture is to emphasize that you don't have to have a
pristine, trailed show car to "show". A well-maintained daily driver is
more impressive to me than a barely driven, poorly engineered 'show' car.
But displaying your T3 increases the category size and makes an impression
on the people putting the event on and it also shows the parts/after-market
suppliers that there is a growing interest in these "rare" cars and maybe
they should think about supplying more/new parts. And you never know, you
could just win a trophy in the process (gee, wouldn't that just suck! :)

C'mon volks, let's see your rides!
