It started knocking yesterday and got really loud today. I thought it was a rod since it sounded deep inside. I removed the valve covers and decided to adjust all of the rockers since the noise seemed definitely comming from there. Well this did not fix the noise so I turned the engine on with the covers off and heard the same noise ,so as it was turned on in idle I decided to press hard on each rocker as it moved up and down . I pressed each one on the spring side and found that # 3 intake made the knock louder, the # 1 exhaust did that too but when I pressed hard on the # 4 exhaust the noise went away. There is alot of microscopic metal filings in the oil and this made the oil look grey. It is definitely not any of the rods , it all points to the cam. All of the rockers are adjusted fine and they seem to bob up and down normally, Did my cam break diagonally, did my cam gear get loose ? or did my bearings get detroyed ? I can see oil squirting out my rockers and my oil is not too hot, like it is all normal but something is really bad. Any thoughts ? I will perform an engine autotopsy this Sunday . Oh shucks , I will not be able to make it to any of the events that are planned , well not in my car anyhow. Please let me know what you think. Thanks !
