Corey,

I think the best way to do that is to use the car battery from the same car
as the clock, but any 12V power supply will work in getting it close.  I'm
not sure on the exact mechanics of the clock, so it might not even make a
difference, but it seems to me that it might keep time differently on a
power supply, just as it might in another car.  No resistor needed, however,
it (and anything else) will only draw as much current as it needs.  But like
Richard G suggested, by all means fuse it!
