We used to keep a cake pan with water in it to soak them in before installing them. We usually put some #3 aviation Permatex or equivelent on the valve cover to hold them so they wouldnt slip out later down the road. VW then switched to the cork/vinyl combination, and valve cover leaks went down considerably. I guess that I still use a little Permatex out of old habits. Better safe than sorry, like I was a few weeks ago when I blew a gasket and lost 2 quarts of oil in about 10 miles. I had used the pure rubber Fel-Pro gaskets, and had NOT put any adhesive on them. > I also wipe the head surface, but only to make sure there is no dirt > there, not to try to get it dry. > > That is what I had done on mine. Dry valve cover, and dry head surface. But it still blew out.. Russ Wolfe russ_wolfe@MAHLEParr.com Mahle Parr Filter Systems 505 E.
