It is often useful to use a spot of sealant to attach the gaskets to the covers, especially in the centers of the long sides. NEVER put any sealant on the head side; if you do, you will have a hell of a time getting the valve cover off the next time, and the old gasket will break up and leave bits of stuff glued to the gasket surface that will keep things from sealing for years to come. You might need to feel the sealing surfaces of your heads. If there is stuff already stuck to them you should clean it off carefully without scratching the metal. The secret to good sealing is to get good gaskets. Good ones will be full size in the cover while bad ones will be undersize. Good ones also tend to be a bit thicker. I use good black rubberized cork gaskets, but I understand that Keith likes the solid black rubber ones from Felpro. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
