The gaskets you got at your local parts store are probably Fel-Pro, and are rubber. I have had a problem with them. They like to be glued in. Since you used grease to hold them to put them in, keep and eye on them. One of mine blew out after about 1000 miles. I recently purchased some from Rocky Mountain Motor works, and they come from germany and are like the factory gaskets. A combination of cork and vinyl. These can be put in dry or with small amount of #3 Permatex.
