These consoles and the rev-counter were an official Volkswagen of Australia dealer-fitted accessory for 1971 and later Type 3s and are now extremely rare even here in Australia. They were always in Type 3 sales brochures from 1971 onwards but since then I have only twice seen one on a Type 3 here. That sort of cost of shipping is the price we are used to having to pay here because we continually suffer from what has been called "the tyranny of distance". To me, US$100 is NOT a shocking price to pay for shipment. If I saw one of these consoles for sale, especially with the rev-counter, at a swap meet, I would snap it up almost regardless of price. There are plenty of Type 3 owners here who would love one of these. In fact, I reckon our federal government should place an Export ban on it !!!!!!!! And, by the way, I haven't a clue who the seller is. Simon Glen Toowoomba, Australia.
