Most of the older cars in Sweden aren't used in daily traffic anyway. One reason is the insurance for an "enthusiast car" is much cheaper than for a standard car, but you are not allowed to use the car as a daily driver. As far as the inspection, a few years ago only some car owners could have their cars inspected every second year - if they were lucky enough to have the inspection in springtime. Then they could drive for two summers (nobody drives their classic cars in winter in Sweden because of the salt). Now the "every second year" applies to all old cars. But it makes some sense, since the owners probably take more care of their vehicles than the average motorist. To return to the Type 3 - unfortunately a lot of these nice cars were wrecked during the 80's in a motorsport event called Folkrace. Basically you could use any old car, put a stronger engine in it and race! The Type 3 was ideal for this kind of dirttrack racing, especially if you put a 2-litre Volvo engine in the back. The weight distribution with the heavier engine gave very quick starts, and 100+ hp engine boosted the performance. I have no idea how many cars were destroyed this way, but probably they were going to be wrecked anyway... Nobody spent a lot of money on their cars, since they had to be sold for 350$ after the contest! Regards Karl G. Sjšqvist ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
