Jim Adney wrote: Agreed on the paint, but I thought all the type 3 mufflers were German made. Where else were they made? Jim, They were made in Australia (1964 to 1968) and South Africa (1964 to 1969) where VW Type 3s were also fully manufactured. (From 1968 to 1974 they were CKD-assembled in Australia but with German mufflers.) And, no matter what one may think of the Brazilian 'Type 3" bodies and floorpans, the flat-engined twin-carburettor Type 3 motor was made in Brazil with Brazilian mufflers from 1970 to 1981. This flat Type 3 motor was used in the Karmann-Ghia TC coupe (1970-1976), the SP-2 sportscar (1973-1977), the 1600TL fastback (1973-1977), the 1600 Variant I (1973-1977) and finally the Variant II wagon (1977-1981) all of them with Brazilian-made mufflers.
