I maintain that there were 1500S engines with lowered compression and that the cars that had these engines were still called "1500S". I found another reference to support this in Henry Elfrink, Type 3 Technical Manual, p. 282: the 1500S engine description lists a 8.5 to 1 compression ratio, but also 7.8 to 1 for the "export version". I agree with Per that there's more to a 1500S than the compression ratio, the obvious being that for the 64-65 models "S" could be considered shorthand for dual Solex 32 PDSITs.
