RE: [T3] Type 36-265 Variant Panel Van

Not wanting to invest in the machine tools necessary to make the change for
the Mexican market???? I've heard that the swing set-up is a sturdier set
up, and may be better suited to South American road conditions???? Just a
thought, OK two :) Did the one you see have the chassis of an IRS later
model??? With the mounts for the trailing arms??? The common practice is
to rechassis a late model beetle, (90's) on a ball joint 66 up chassis. And
then the car is reregistered with the VIN from the rebuilt old model
chassis, as a 66 up. Strange but it's a way around the current import laws,
that don't allow the registering of the late model Mexican Beetles here in
the USA.

what really blew ME away, was crouching down to look under a 1997
Mexican
Beetle at a show here in NY and seeing a swing axle setup... why would
they
keep such an outdated
inferior setup so long??
