Do you mean the Distributor itself, or the gear inside the case? The distributor hold-down clamp will get hung up on the cooling flap rod, in my experience. It takes some creative twisting to weasel the dizzy and it's clamp out of it's mounting location. If it's the gear, how are you grabbing it? I have the tool that Empi sells to remove the gear, but I always have to remember to twist it slightly to get it out. The drive gears are why you'll have to do this, it's easier to see once you get it out. Did you remove the pump driveshaft also?
