A type3 engine has a much longer physical length compared with the type1, as the fan and fan housing sits on the end of the crankshaft instead of on top of the engine. Because of this, the type1 system is not long enough to clear the fan housing on a type3, and a type3 system is too long to fit under the rear valance on a type1. Also the heat exchangers are much longer on a type3 to reach behind the fan housing. Compare pictures of the two engines and you'll (probably) see the difference.
