Lots of bits of engine rattling about in the cylinder? (Ouch again!) Or typo, and you really mean the points gap? If so, wear of the fibre heel due to no lubrication on the distributor cam or a roughly worn cam, or slipping its adjustment due to bad thread on points clamping screw, or burning away of the points due to condensor faulty or coil wrong type.
