Well, I believe I found the reason for the "clunk" - a missing spacer in the damper - it was juggling around. I threw another washer on the diagonal arm. And found out that my shifter is loose because the gear has a lot of play - there's no play at the coupling and it's in good condition. Until I build up the courage to rebuild my gearbox. The shifter has about 3" play which is about the same amount of play as my steering wheel , Coincidence ?! It's an old car what can I say.
