I think the easiest and cheapest thing to do would be to find a type 3 part and just mount it in place. There were 2 versions: early with a chrome surround and a late that is all black. Your 69 would have come with the early chrome one, but the late one will still fit and work perfectly. I assume all you need is the "cover" and that the lever and all the works underneath are there and functional. I probably have the late parts.
