Just a small point to make, guys. I wouldn't want to defend Haynes books too much, but don't forget they're written mainly for the UK market, so there will always be a few US style bits that the manual might not cover too well such as side marker lights. Anyway, if you think the Haynes books were bad in the 70s, you should see what the new ones are like, with a spanner rating for each job; ie one spanner a total nobber could do it, four spanners you need a fully equipped VW dealership and a degree in engineering.
