To add another example, my '65 Notch S, which dispite the rust, and the run in with a Mercedes, seems to be all original, (well in terms of the doors anyway). My "S" has each door lock cylinders below the haandle, and the interior door locks as part of the door handle. There is no stamping or dimple for the lock knob on the trailing, top edgeof the door. As was mentioned before the T1 Ghias also had this or a similar handle, and was part of the 71 MY. Funny, VW introduced/reintroduced this in 71 on the T1 Ghias, and even deleted the hole, but did not change the profile of the area for the lock knob . My '70 Ghia had the knob on the trailing edge of the door top. Again sadly both Ghias were rusty, but original. Later, John La Francois '65 Notch S (Nub) '67 Beetle (Bailey) '98 Jetta GL (Wolfgang) > the only time that the type-3 's had a door lock only the drivers was for the > basic models. if you had a "S" model you should have had locks on both sides There seems to be enough disagreement on this question that this may be the answer. The microfilm calls out 2 door lock cylinders per car, however this would not be the first time it had an error. ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
