Hi, Volks: Just thought I'd update anyone who was interested about the condition of Yoko, our '67 Squareback. Last time I posted, I had finally re-oriented my distributor driveshaft and had the engine running beautifully...then it locked up on me entirely. A number of listees sent me possible scenarios about the problem (much appreciated, but most of them quite morbid). The weather since has been inhospitable to working outdoors (lots of freezing rain and subzero wind gusts...it's Kansas, you know), so I hadn't worked on the car at all. In the meantime, my wife and I have been moving to a new residence; to avoid having two non-functioning cars in our new (shared) driveway, yesterday I had the Square towed to The VW Shop, home of local air-cooled shaman John Byers. Within an hour he called me back to let me know the starter was severely hung, and that I did indeed have a 6-volt flywheel on the car (as was suspected but not confirmed by the PO). What a relief! He has the engine turning over just fine now and is investigating the slipping-rotor phenomenon. Thanks to all of you who helped me through the dist-drive hassle...I'll post more info on Yoko's progress when I have something to tell.
