I have a 36" Snap-On 1/2" breaker bar that I have used for over 30 years,
and never broken it. The socket I use is a Snap-On 1/2" 1-7/16" impact
socket. I also have the 3/4" drive bar and socket, but I rarely use it
because it is usually buried in the bottom of my tool box. I do use a
"cheater pipe" on both the 1/2" and 3/4" when needed.
The comment about never backing up to align the cotter pin is VERY true. If
you check, the 2 holes in the end of the axle are not drilled at a 90 degree
angle to each other. This is to help with the aligning the cotter pin in
this situation.
