The socket I use is a Snap-On 1/2" 1-7/16" impact socket. I also have the 3/4" drive bar and socket, but I rarely use it because it is usually buried in the bottom of my tool box. I do use a "cheater pipe" on both the 1/2" and 3/4" when needed. The comment about never backing up to align the cotter pin is VERY true. If you check, the 2 holes in the end of the axle are not drilled at a 90 degree angle to each other. This is to help with the aligning the cotter pin in this situation.
