Jim, I really don't know so much about Brazilian Type 3s and other Brazilian VWs. I would like to find out more. I am just interested in them especially as they deviated so much from what came out of the parent copmany in Germany. Type 3s have also been fully manufacturesd in Australia and South Africa as well as CKD-assembled in Ireland but they all followed the basic German line with only relatively minor differences (which usually made them inferior to the German product). Brazilian Type 3s differed radically from their German cousins. I lived and worked in Nigeria in West Africa for much of the 1970s. During that time an incredible array of different German and Brazilian VWs was on sale there including German and Brazilian Beetles, German-made 181 (Thing), Type 2 Transporters from both Germany and Brazil, German Type 3 Fastbacks and Brazilian 4-door Type 3 Fastbacks, the Brazilian VW SP-2 sportscar, the Brasilia (Igala in Nigeria), German Type 4 and K70 cars, German and Brazilian first generation Passats (Dasher in USA), etc. In the late sixties and until 1971 I also worked in Zambia in Central Africa during which time I owned five Type 36 Variants. Four were German-made and the other was South African-made and one of the German Type 36s was a panel van (M-265 and M-263). However, curreently I have three E-mail contacts in Brazil who are keen Type 3 freaks and they are an excellent source of accurate imformation. There are several excellent Brazilian web sites which cover these unique Brazilian VWs: http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/volksline/cl.htm http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/fusca/fusca.htm http://www.geocities.com/c_neto_2000/index.htm http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/fusca/images/kgtc.jpg http://www.amplus.com.br/vwsp2/galeria/index.htm Some of these sites contain not just photos but specifications and also reproductions of contemporary advertisements and magazine road tests. Regards, Simon Glen, Toowoomba, Australia.
