My '80 Vanagon used conventional points. I converted a non-CA bus to a CA version. It was cheaper to buy a whole bus than just the few bits I needed to fix the non-CA broken components. The CA bus I got for parts was missing the distributor, but the Bentley indicated the point version. While I was on the Vanagon list, there was lots of discussion about using various Hall effect units. Very good results using a couple of brands. I never got around to changing over to one. Looking in the type 2 Bentley manual there is mention of a transistorized ign system used in 79 and later CA busses. These used a Hall effect sensor and a special coil. It looks interesting, but it probably requires a different dist shaft which wouldn't fit in a type 3 dist, and the type 4 dist is probably too tall for our engine compartments. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
