To remove the ears, I set the alt. in a vise and used an angle grinder with both cutting disc and grinding disc, this was done quick and dirty in about 10-15 minutes. I just removed enough material to make it nice and circular. I have not yet quite figured out the part with the belt pulley. The best way would either be to install the shimmable pulley from a VW, or the use shims under the alt. to adjust the belt. Also a seal must be made up to seal the fan housing. I went to a shop that break damaged cars, and just looked through all the alternators they had on the shelve until I found one that had the correct diameter. As you probably know, most alt.s are much larger than this one, this is the same size as the stock generator (120 mm?) So this unit was a cheap, used thing. Still works perfectly though. Please ask more, I cannot guess what to answer :-) PerL ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
