I was talking to Someone today who was getting stuff togeather for the restoration of his square.. and was not-connected yet. He was elated to find ISP West in Hemmings having all those harder to find rubber parts, but then Shocked to find that 6 rubber seals cost more than the entire running Square! Sound familiar? sure it does! A model T buddy told me once that the worst thing that can happen to these old parts is to get in the hands of a dealer... where they often rot away till thier useless. What can we do? Educate yourself and whenever you see that less common part at a Flea for $5 BUY IT!! then keep a list and sell or trade to other listees! Some of us are better connected than others and some of us are already doing this... but we can probably do better if everyone that goes to a car show checks out the swap meet and looks for those part #s that start with a 3... Youd be amazed at what Ive found for $5 or LESS and im in NY... far away from the T3 Mecca on the west coast. My rule of thumb when selling VW stuff is sell it for about half of a major catalog price, unless I have to really bust my **** to get it off the car or something. The major suppliers do us a service, and they do indeed have overhead on what they buy and sell but often the service is only for those with deep pockets... and the stuff really is out there, WE just need to find it and bring it into the hobby ourselves! While not everyone can cut an old rotted axlebeam in half with a torch, sucessfully put out the grease fire, and pound out the bushings... we all can look for those Door seals that someone thought was for a bug at $10ea. And aint that part of the Fun?? Keith ------------------------------------------------------------------- Pitch in! Send your pledge of support! mailto:support@vwtype3.org
