Fwd: [T3] Interior panels question.

Mark,

Rather than drilling, I would be inclined to replace the grommets with "Riv-Nuts" installed with a pop-rivet gun in the original holes (install with wet sealant to inhibit corrosion), then use countersunk screws with formed cosmetic washers threw the panel (your going to cut through the panel anyway). Riv-nuts should be available anyplace that sells pop-rivet guns, screws and washers at larger FLAPS (I go to the boat supply store and get stainless). This will make sure the panel stays in place (like when you hit the brakes), and if you ever want to do a purist restoration you won't have to deal with the "Swiss cheese" created by drilling and installing self-tapping sheet metal screws.

Good luck

I decided to place the speakers for my stereo in the panel in the rear
hatch of my 71 square. Runing the wires wasn't the easiest thing in
the world but I did it.
The problem is that the clips aren't strong enough to hold the panel
in place when I close the hatch. They are all brend new and I used
the little rubber gromets.
About the only thing I can think to do is to drill more holes in the
sheet metal and use more clips.
Anyone have any better ideas?
