Re: [T3] Low Mileage T3 value

My 2 cents worth,

My 73 fasty has 186000 miles on it. It is in what I consider remarkable
condition considering its age. It has door dings, faded paint, dents in the
bumpers, etc. But what convinced me to shell out the whoping $750 for it was
that it has been in the garage since 1987 when the original owner passed away
(the Dec 1988 inspestion sticker and tags backs this up). I am blessed with
no rust (except a little under the battery tray) Factory perfect rubber,
great dash (needs carpet and seat covers) like new headliner. And the coolest
part, it was purchased new at Billy Barret VW off Northwest Highway (Dallas),
1 mile from my house (I have the original manual and warranty card).

The only downer is the effort that goes into an EFI T3 that has been sitting
for years is MUCH greater than that which goes into a T1, especially if it is
new to you (as it is me). I am no stranger to the T1 ( I have owned 12), and
have come along way with my ghia, but this thing is kickin my a**. Soon, with
the help of the guys on the mailing list, I will be flying down the road in
it and it will all be worth it!!!

The mileage does not matter, the cars are old, get one that has other things
going for it. At its age it will need work either way. My ghia is rusty and
full of bondo (although I love her), my T3, although agravating, will be a
whole lot cheaper in the long run.

The value is in the heart with these cars...
