In  many respects the Type 34 Ghia was Volkswagen's Edsel. Unusual
styling, poor market research and positioning, ineffective promotion,
and overconfidence were factors for both. Another reason the Type 34
Convertibles were never put into production might have been relatively
disappointing demand for the coupe initially compared with the Type 14.
