<x-charset iso-8859-1>>Yet another "availability/originality" question..... Where the door panels on the pre-1966 Type 3s the same on the German and Export models? By this I mean the two-piece "z" armrest panels? If so, how difficult are these panels to find if one were doing a restoration? I saw some prices for the "two piece" panels on Ispwest and CalPacific Jbugs, but these panel sets were in excess of $350.00, and even more for Squarebacks..... > Yes, the door panels/arm rests are the same regardless of target market. The 61-63 models and the 64-65 "S" models had the long arm rests, grey and black, respectively. 64-65 "N" models had Beetle-style short armrests and 1-piece front door panels. The armrests are hard to find in good condition. The door panels are hard to find as well but those can be made by a good upholstery shop. Yes, squarebacks would cost more, there are 5 (yes, 5) extra panels on the early cars. Although these 5 panels have no heat seams so they should be easy to make.
