You're doing the right thing. The actual position isn't critical 
because you're on the "flat" part of the cam. If you look a the 
pulley, you will see that there is a wide space next to the timing 
marks. Look for a similar space on the other side and use the 
same end of it that you used for #1 & 3. That's probably more 
precision than you need.
