Originally sent with html formatting. My apologies. This should be text only. Who installed the plug originally? Before pulling the engine, consider the following: I knew a guy once who didn't completely tighten the plug on the #3 cylinder of his 1968 VW van; At least that's what he later surmised. This was in Seattle many summers ago. He then drove it slowly down through the SW and on a hill in Bryce Canyon, Utah - that plug "blew out". He put the plug back in and drove down the road thinking it would need to be heli-coiled. That van then drove into Baja, ferried across to the mainland, down through Mex, into Guatemala, and eventually was sold between the border of Mexico and Belize. Approximately 12,000 miles were put on the van in that period of time, 4 months. There was other work done on the van (another set of stories), but it never needed a heli-coil or anything done to keep the spark plug in. Of course, your neighbor may not be so lucky... ----------------------------------------------------------------- My neighbor's VW engine recently blew the #3 spark plug out of the head. Any good quick 'n dirty solutions? -Mark Fuhriman
