Toby's got exactly the right idea here, but this CAN be done without cutting into the fan housing at all. It may require grinding off some of the excess material from the middle elbow where the oil re-enters the case, but there is plenty of extra metal there and you'll notice that Berg has already done something similar on the pump cover fitting. I mount the filter base partway out on the rear mount crossbar, but I have to fabricate rather intricate plumbing to connect to the hose fittings. I also haven't bothered with the thermal valve, external cooler, and extra plumbing that Toby has there. My engines are stock displacement, so normal cooling is fine. I like having the filter on the crossbar, because it means that all the plumbing goes in and out of the car with the engine, so it can all be fitted on the bench. Someday I need to take some pictures.... - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
