Re: pre 66 bug headlights....

<x-flowed>I will try to find the few photos I took and scan and post them.
Basically, while the fender was still attached to the car which was sitting
as level as I could get it, I held the complete bug headlight unit next to
the fender, bottom of the light chrome ring on the same plane as the
fender, then angled it until the headlight bulb was about perpendicular to
the world. Sketched a pencil line to that point, and drew a very
conservative cut line. Once you have some of the metal cut out, then you
can take just the chrome headlight trim ring and lay it over the fender and
see much better where to trim. I used some cereal boxes for templates
somewhere but I can't remember exactly where. (did this in the summer)
Maybe when I find the photos I can give you more details.
The headlight bucket *just* fits if you cut the fender right...maybe a
little squeezing here and there.
My fenders were pretty badly rotted, so it would have been as much work
(almost) to fix them, and I thought the beetle lights would give it a
little 356 or 912 look. I suggest you get a sacrificial fender to practice
on if yours are in nice shape. You only have to fudge around with the first
one because you can take a bunch of measurements of that on and transfer
them to the other side.

sorry if this is not helpful.
