<x-charset iso-8859-1>Way back when I my '67 Sqbk was much newer, I was in college and in one class we had a calc to get perform, using HP, estimated drag values, etc to establish a max speed. I calculated my Sqbk would only reach 84 mph. On a flat stretch I never got it above the 84 max the calcs indicated. Bone stock '67 dual carb. Wish I had the formula, since everytime I mention it, someone asks for it. BTW, just above that speed, the front end of a '80 Vanagon starts to lift beyond the comfort level. Not that it would ever get there on it's own, I had a steep downhill, with a nice long flat run at the bottom to get it up to that speed. Jeff '67 Sqbk -----Original Message----- > But for normal driving, the Type 34 will easily hit 70-75 Mph and hold it. That's more than most VW's will do. I don't know what the top speed is, but I'd guess it's about 100 Mph. > Dude, take it out of 3rd gear!!! Seriously, VW literature states the dual carb. and FI max speed as 84 mph manual/81 mph automatic. (Sources - '65,'69,'73 brochures) Single carb. models were 78 mph. (Source - '62 brochure) Of course VW has always been known for understating things so I would add 15%-20% to that. ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org </x-charset>
