<x-charset ISO-8859-1>It could be the plug wires. Remove the Distributor cap,look for the mark for the #1 wire. The firing order is 1432. The cylinders are in this order...

I think this is the order for the wires on the distributor, but I don't have my manual with me, so double check yours.

 2o o1(has mark on distributor body)
 3o o4

Also, did you use Bosch tune up parts? I used some ngk stuff years ago on a bug and it turns out the condensor was bad.

It could also be a timing problem...Line up your timing mark on the pully and make sure the rotor lines up with the #1 mark on the distributor body. While your there push the rotor and make sure it is all the way down on the shaft. Let us know what you find.
