They were used on the heavy duty version of the Variant, called Variant
II. The Variant II must not be confused with the Brasilian car which
actually had that name. The Variant II had the "A" equipment level, 1500
or 1600 engine, swing axles and 90 kgs higher total weight. I've seen
the Variant II designation used in my owners manual, and I even in some
UK owners manual or sales brouchure I saw on the net, not too long ago.

Regular Euro type 3s used IRS from 68, I believe it was.
