That's not usually much of a problem until the clamping gasket around the rear of the heat exchanger shrouding also fails through corrosion. Heat exchangers on Type 1 give trouble much more often because they don't have this extra clamp. The pipe through the exchanger can also (rarely) fail where the header pipe seals to the casting inside. Dave.
