I should have said "2.5 litres" of oil and not "3.5 litres". A Type3 sump cannot hold that much oil. I think I made this mistake because I did an oil change on my Type4 yesterday afternoon (Saturday 18 August) shortly before writing and E-mailing that story. I think I must have had 3.5 litres on the brain because that is the amount of oil needed for a Type4 engine at oil and filter change time. Nevertheless, that typo shouldn't detract from the silly lesson to be learned.
