	Have you ever driven a Type III at 5degF at about 1,000 rpm in
first gear?

	Been there, done that.  The thermostat is a good thing.

	Ever seen people driving water-cooled cars with a piece of
cardboard attached to the radiator to block air flow?

	I know that the air-cooled VW thermostat is somewhat of a
"religious" issue, but I think that 99.9% of people will agree that there
are *some* driving conditions where it can become very relevant.
