I agree with JJ. In my case, I just covered the ENTIRE cabin floor with a non-adhesive barrier. This allows me to easily get to the pan without having to tear apart/destroy anything. The barrier I use (what the dude told me) is used on the transmission hump of vans to keep sound and heat levels down in the front compartment (for front engine/front wheel drive vans). My OE boards were still good for the most part but small sections did solidify -- felt and looked almost like obsidian and was a real beech to remove from the pan.
