Last two nights been playing with the timing and carbs. Got it to idle very nice. Went for a drive and after a while the engine would not return to idle. Pulled over to check it out and didn't notice anything wrong so I drove gently home figuring the dizzy slipped. Got home and started digging. I forgot to tighten the jam nuts on one of the linkages so the carb with the strongest return spring was holding the other off idle (loose linkage readjusted itself). Also, could not get on the dizzy clamp bolt very good. Looked down there with a light and it was hanging loose. The clamp bolt head had broken off. Luckily, I have a spare dizzy. Pulled the dizzy and replaced the clamp. My problem is that it idles and runs better than it has, but it wants to run-on (diesel as I've always heard it) when I try to shut it off. I always thought this was from too much timing. I set the timing at 0 degrees per Bently for a U motor. It is a 1600cc single port w/dual solexs and 009 with Pertronix (or similar). My spare dizzy is out of my 67 fasty and has one vacuum canister. I would rather use the vacuum advance dizzy but I don't have time to swap them right now as I am leaving tomorrow for a show 150 miles away. Any ideas? Thanks.
