If the engine shows signs of overheating, check the timing. Check the
operation of the vacuum, and mechanical advance. Check that the thermostat
is working properly. Check for vacumm leaks. Don't blame the fuel injection
first. It is usually the last thing to look at. Do a basic tune up with
valve adjustment. Make absolutely sure that everything in the ignition is
working properly.
I did fuel injection trouble shooting for the dealers when these systems
were new, and we very seldom found any problems with the FI system.
Since you have the harness out, Yes, fix any problems with it. But, don't
use crimp style connectors. Use solder, and shrink tubing to make any
splices. If you need any connectors, They are still available. There was a
post here on the list a few days ago about where they can be found.
