Phil said, When running, there is a slurping sound in the case, like sucking through a straw at the bottom of a glass. --------------------------------------------------------- I have not had a VW for a long time to see any problems like this, only 2 years but I have had a relative experience the same sucking slurping gurguling monster inside sound before. Same as yours I think and it was louder when opening the oil filler cap. The problem was inside, appearently the oil pickup tube was not secured to the oil pump passage tightly. This was overlooked when engine was assembled, no locktite and screws hand tightened. The sucking sound came when the pump attempts to suck oil and air gets in for that unattractive sucking sound. Your oil pickup tube must not be secured well enough to make a good seal or case cracked around the input pipe or the oil pump is doing some air sucking itself. This is just an idea to look at.
