Hello, I am new to the group. I have had many VWs and am about to jump into Type 3's. I have found two notch backs to choose from but these are different than the type 1s and 2s I have had. Please help in my decision making process. Both are 62-65 models (how do I tell the difference?) and are quite different in condition however the price is the same for either car. I want a car that is reasonably stock looking, a bit peppy and dropped just a touch. Car 1 is body on pan with running gear every thing else is in a box. Pans need replacement, one rocker has been cut out and the replacement is there. Otherwise the body is straight! other than two small rust spots on the fenders. The engine is 7+ years < 1K miles from a rebuild with large pistons 92-94? and two dual throat Webbers and a cam? The worst part of the car is the oversized sunroof. Replace the top or put in a rag? This car has all new rubber with it. Porsche 5 spoke wheels with wide 5 pattern (yuck). Car 2 is supposed to run. Also 7+ years from a rebuild < 1K miles on rebuild. The engine is stock. The car is in general rustier, needs pans but has a solid roof. It also has some dents. This car has some rubber, not all. Original wheels and caps, less spare parts than car 1. Please give me your input as I have to decide by end of week (cant afford both). Also any opinions on IRS pans with a wide 5 bolt pattern for these cars?
