Re: [T3] Heated debate in the office.....

Per Lindgren,

The VW 1600TS was a 1966 and 1967 Fastback assembled in Australia with a high
local content but, unlike German Fastbacks of those model years, it was only
available with drum brakes and the old-style open-centred five stud wheels. It
also retained 6-volt electrics for 1967.

The "VW1600TS" script was used across the engine lid and the "TS" logo was placed
at the back of the front fenders where the side parking light would have been for
European Fastbacks. Some pictures taken from an Australian sales brochure of the
VW 1600TS can be seen at the bottom of the page on
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/type3/literature/sales/1966.htm

Although, the photos in this brochure were "doctored" to suit different markets,
the front cover of this brochure clearly shows the "VW1600TS" across the engine
lid and an illustration at the back of a rolling floorpan shows the open-centred
five stud wheels for drum brakes. (Incidentally, the same cover illustration of a
blue car was used on German 1966 Fastback brochures but the writing across the
engine lid said "VW1600TL" !!!! and the picture of the rolling floor pan had
four-stud wheels and disc brakes !! - such was the skill with which the brochure
producers used to work over their illustrations with an air brush in those days.)

Earlier, during the 1960s, the Canadian importer of twin-carb1500S versions of the
VW Type 34 Karmann Ghia used to sell these vehicles with a small logo with a "TS"
in a circle attached to the rear next to the number plate.

I have learnt from Simon Glen that the Australian Fastbacks used the TS badge, but
I have never seen it. It was certainly not used here in Europe.
