Check eBay...I see lots of manuals online there, some going for less than half of the retail price. Bentley & Haynes are the ones most VW heads seem to recommend. I still like the Muir book, regardless of some questionable procedures it describes -- it's got heart, a solid philosophy and very easy-to-follow instructions for the less-mechanically-inclined. Personally I like having a whole system explained before I take a wrench to it. But
the listees who dislike Muir speak the truth when they advise you to consult his book AND one of the more traditional, no-nonsense shop manuals. The more you have, the better, in my thinking. You never know what little detail might be left out of one of them, but is mentioned in another.

And don't buy the one from INTEREUROPE. I inherited that and a Haynes with my Squareback, and the InterEurope book is pretty bogus.
