I am baffled by the fact that the clutch and the shifter both went out
on you at the same time. Here are some things to check: front
transmission mount, shift rod coupling, clutch cable tube weld to
the body where it exits the tunnel.
Do you have a stronger than stock pressure plate? If so, the clutch
cable tube welds to the body/tunnel may have broken off. Berg
points out that these points may need to be strengthened if you put
in a stronger clutch.
Still, I don't come up with anything that might have caused BOTH
problems.
Let us know what you find.
