Stock Solex twin carbs work well enough - I get over 27mpgUS at highway
speeds.
Most of the Type 3s in the UK are twin carb Solex anyway.  I have a FI Type
3 too, and there isn't much to choose - my carbs do slightly better mpg than
the FI, but I think the FI has slightly better low rpm performance and
flexibility; it wouldn't be worth changing your carbs back to FI.
