I never had trouble with the good aircraft strippers (the kind that will
knock you out if you sniff them) taking the VW paint right to metal the
first time.
I DID have trouble stripping the Opel primer off... wouldnt touch the stuff
where the sun had baked it on, had to sand it off!!!

So

Perhaps the newer paints are better... and perhaps sun baking makes removing
it worse.
