Mine are Brazilian, possibly cofap. I'll check tonight. I think I would 
have to ask a bit more for mine, but I don't know what my 
replacement cost might be. I wonder if you got the wrong part in 
the right box, or is there any chance that this is the right part, but 
your old one was wrong, so you are just trying to install the new 
one incorrectly.

BTW, there is a bushing in the steering arm that probably needs to 
be replaced. I have those, but they are probably also available from 
VW.
